Medical observership in Europe for international doctors

A medical observership is a structured professional visit in which an international doctor observes clinical work, discusses cases and learns how a hospital department is organised. FORTEedu helps doctors from Kazakhstan and Central Asia identify a suitable observership in Latvia and the Baltics and coordinates the visit from the first enquiry to travel.

What an observership may include

• Observation of department workflow and multidisciplinary teamwork.
• Clinical case discussions, lectures or agreed educational sessions.
• Professional meetings with physicians and department representatives.
• A specialty-focused programme in surgery, cardiology, oncology, radiology, anaesthesiology or another field.

Observership or clinical internship?

An observership is usually observation-based, while a clinical internship or hands-on attachment may have additional requirements and a different scope. The host institution decides what an international visitor may observe or join. FORTEedu describes the format clearly before confirmation and does not promise independent clinical practice or procedures.

Where can the visit take place?

We work with programmes connected to university hospitals and clinical centres in Latvia and the Baltics. Depending on specialty and availability, options may include PSKUS, RAKUS, BKUS, Rīgas Dzemdību nams and other approved departments or partner institutions.

Support for international applicants

We help clarify the learning objective, prepare an enquiry to the clinical base, coordinate the invitation and document checklist, and provide practical information about visa procedures, accommodation and travel. Final acceptance always depends on the host institution and the applicant’s documents.
